Openness of Fish Habitat Matters: Lake Pelagic Fish Community Starts Very Close to the Shore

چکیده

Fish communities differ significantly between the littoral and pelagic habitats. This paper attempts to define shift in two habitats based on European standard gillnet catch. We sampled benthic from shore Lake Most Římov Reservoir (Czech Republic). The 3 m deep nets were spanned across water body at equal distances boundary points, where depth was 3.5 m. community contained more fish, species, smaller individuals. mild sloped with a soft bottom attracted fish than sloping bank hard less benthos large Daphnia. catch of dominated by eurytopic fish—rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus) roach (Rutilus rutilus) bleak (Alburnus alburnus) Římov. With exception one case overgrown macrophytes extended structured habitat, largest observed only first above Open catches relatively constant small signs decline towards middle lake. results indicate that is representative very limited area volume, while most volume community. has important consequences for assessment parameters whole lake following standards sampling design.

Forage fish and near - shore habitat associations

Pacific herring (Clupea pallasi) has been identified as a critical species for North Pacific marine ecosystems and historically has been a commercially important species. In order to improve understanding of this key species, datasets which describe herring spawn activities were integrated with known habitat information and analyzed to determine which habitat has been critical for herring survi...

Fish Abundance and Habitat Recommendations of the Lake Whatcom Tributaries

The tributaries of Lake Whatcom, Austin/Beaver, Anderson, Olsen, and Smith Creeks, provide essential habitat for many fish species native to the Pacific Northwest. However, development in the watershed has contributed to habitat alterations and even degradation of habitat quality. In this report, fish abundance and diversity, and habitat quality is compared both temporally, and among different ...

Homing of pelagic fish to fish aggregation devices (FADs): the role of sensory cues

We conducted a displacement experiment to determine the influence of sensory cues on homing of pelagic fish to fish aggregation devices (FADs). If pelagic fish use chemical cues to home to a FAD, and cues such as odours from fouling organisms and fish associated with the FAD only occur down-current, we hypothesised that fish released down-current from a FAD would return in higher proportions th...

When Optimal Strategy Matters to Prey Fish.

Predator-prey interactions are commonly studied with an interest in determining the optimal strategy for prey. However, the implications of deviating from optimal strategy are often unclear. The present study considered these consequences by studying how the direction of an escape response affects the strategy of prey fish. We simulated these interactions with numerical and analytical mathemati...
